Selena at Sunset Station

A 20th Anniversary Celebration

In 1986, Selena Quintanilla-Perez won the Tejano Music Award for Female Vocalist of the Year, and
from that moment on her popularity grew and grew. She signed with EMI Latin in 1989, released Entre a Mi Mundo in 1992, and Amor Prohibido, one of the best-selling Latin albums in the United States, in 1994.

On March 31, 1995, her meteoric rise was cut tragically short when Yolanda Saldivar, her friend and former employee, shot and killed her in a Days Inn motel room in Corpus Christi.

But that’s not where the story ends.

In 1995, her posthumous crossover album, DREAMING OF YOU, debuted atop the Billboard 200, and then in 1997, Warner Brothers released SELENA, a biography film about her life and career starring Jennifer Lopez in the title role.
This spring marks the 20th anniversary of that film’s release, and the Alamo Drafthouse will be celebrating with several screenings across Texas, including one special weekend of outdoor screenings and parties at Sunset Station in San Antonio, the actual location for the music video shoot of Selena’s hit song No Me Queda Más.
